Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence MSc, PGDip, PGCert

artificial intelligence engineer degree

You will start by looking at how to design a database, gaining an understanding of the standard features that management systems provide and how you can best utilise them, then develop an interactive application to access your database. The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to the principles and technology that underlie internet applications and the techniques used in the design and construction of web sites. Students showcase their skills by designing and building both client and server components of a data driven web site.

You will prepare an 7,000-14,000 word dissertation, which includes the material from the interim report, but also contains a complete design, implementation and evaluation of the results of your project. The Faculty-wide Engineering – You’re Hired Week is a compulsory part of the second year programme, and the week has been designed to develop student academic, transferable and employability skills. Working in multi-disciplinary groups of about six, students will work in interdisciplinary teams on a real world problem over an intensive week-long project. The projects are based on problems provided by industrial partners, and students will come up with ideas to solve them and proposals for a project to develop these ideas further. The Web and the Internet are now pervasive in modern life, providing an information resource, and promoting novel, interactive solutions to computing-related activities.

Artificial Intelligence encompasses the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. The course teaches you how AI systems can be built using rigorous development methods and deployed in a variety of different environments. You’ll graduate with the skills that mark you as a specialist in your field and with a competitive advantage for employers. Designed to fill a skills gap and meet a growing need for talented graduates, our BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence degree is supported by the Intel AI Academy. During your time at ARU, you’ll also get the opportunity for a placement year in industry which will see you linked with a high-tech hub company in Cambridge, the region and beyond.

This module covers the basic principles of artificial intelligence systems, techniques and the types of problems that can be solved by such techniques. This module also evaluates the risks and benefits of AI adoptions in different domains. This module will provide you with an understanding of the role of digital technologies in transforming industries and sectors. It will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to core concepts of science for digital technology, and an understanding of the fundamental aspects of science essential for studying and working with digital technologies. In additional to the academic entry requirements listed above, international and EU students will also require the qualifications detailed in this table.

Data Science

We have four software and two hardware laboratories with professional grade facilities that you’ll use throughout your studies, depending on the modules you choose. This can be through working in the labs, which are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or through reading recommended materials or working through problems. Consequently, you’ll need to be self-motivated, self-disciplined and willing to learn outside regular classes. Through the programme, you will study two integrated strands of work which help you to develop both your computational thinking and your skills as an engineer. It is the combination of these two areas that will make you attractive to employers, enabling you to make an immediate contribution when you move into employment. We welcome applications from mature students and accept a range of qualifications.

Students can borrow books and access online learning resources from any Queen’s library. If students wish to purchase recommended texts, rather than borrow them from the University Library, prices per text can range from £30 to £100. Students should also budget between £30 to £75 per year for photocopying, memory sticks and printing charges. All tuition fees quoted relate to a single year of study unless stated otherwise. Tuition fees will be subject to an annual inflationary increase, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Mechatronic Engineering

As a graduate of this programme, you will come away with an outstanding theoretical basis, backed up by practical engineering skills that can be applied to practical situations. The programme will be taught at the brand new, purpose designed UCL East campus in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, bringing you a modern learning environment in an exciting location. Information about the evidence required, acceptable qualifications and test providers can be found on our English language requirements page. A significant emphasis is placed on data management and the implementation of applications for manipulating information, including both database systems and web applications.

We will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations or the International Baccalaureate (IB) for entry onto our undergraduate programmes. Holders of the Tawjihiyya are not usually eligible for direct entry onto our undergraduate courses without completion of a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our foundation pathways. Students who have successfully completed a Polytechnic Diploma may be considered for entry to our undergraduate degree programmes (applicable subjects only). Students who achieve a B grade average or above with good scores in relevant subjects can be considered for direct entry to the second year.

About modules

Programme aimed at converting graduates from a broad range of disciplines into AI specialists. The distinctive nature of this course means that it appeals to students from a broad spectrum of academic backgrounds who may benefit from some additional assistance with areas outside of their previous area of study such as mathematics or programming. Prior to joining the course students are given an induction programme in mathematics and programming to equip them with the core skills needed to succeed. This induction programme will be available to students all year round and additional support with mathematics and programming will be provided as needed by the expert support team at the University. You’ll graduate with an understanding of how machine learning underpins modern life, its technical and ethical foundations, and practical experience in using relevant tools to apply AI methods in any industry you enter.

  • I look forward to coming back and applying the skills I’ve learnt throughout my placement and applied them within my studies.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) is an exciting, cutting-edge topic with technologies and applications that span almost every aspect of our lives.
  • Working in groups of around five to six people, you’ll be assigned a supervisor who will provide you with a short written description of a computer application to be designed, programmed, and documented during the course of the module.
  • AI is revolutionising the world – and that could have a big impact on your career.
  • If you’re applying as an international student, remember that you’ll need to leave plenty of time to get your visa organised.

Students will cover how to build systems that understand spoken or written languages; classify, analyse and generate text; sentiment analysis and information retrieval from large amounts of textual data. Students are responsible for meeting the cost of essential textbooks, and of producing such essays, assignments, laboratory reports and dissertations as are required to fulfil the academic requirements for each programme of study. Required A-level subjects include mathematics,   physics, further mathematics, electronics and computer science. Required A-level subjects include mathematics, physics, further mathematics, electronics and computer science. We are committed to ensuring that all students with the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, are encouraged to apply to study with us. The additional information gained through contextual data allows us to recognise a student’s potential to succeed in the context of their background and experience.

All our labs and practical spaces are staffed by qualified laboratory support staff. They’ll support you in scheduled lab sessions and can give you one-to-one help when you do practical research projects. Your personal tutor helps you make the transition to postgraduate study and gives you academic and personal support throughout your Master’s. We’ll give you as much indication here as we can of how much time you’ll need to be on campus and how many hours you can expect to spend in self-directed study, but please note that these indications are always subject to change.

Appropriate software tools will be used to will be used to extract insights from data. This module’s main emphasis is on the fundamentals of deep machine learning (ML), covering both basic and artificial intelligence engineer degree advanced concepts, including philosophy, linear algebra, big data, optimization, and information theory. AI is playing an increasingly important role in all aspects of the modern world.

Which is better AI or software engineering?

However, AI is not yet advanced enough to replace software engineers entirely. While it can handle tasks such as code generation and optimization, it still lacks the creativity and problem-solving skills that human engineers possess.
