You will start by looking at how to design a database, gaining an understanding of the standard features that management systems provide and how you can best utilise them, then develop an interactive application to access your database. The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to the principles and technology that underlie internet applications and the techniques used in the design and construction of web sites. You will prepare an 7,000-14,000 word dissertation, which includes the material from the interim report, but also contains a complete design, implementation and evaluation of the results of your project. The Faculty-wide Engineering – You’re Hired Week is a compulsory part of the second year programme, and the week has been designed to develop student academic, transferable and employability skills. Working in multi-disciplinary groups of about six, students will work in interdisciplinary teams on a real world problem over an intensive week-long project. The projects are based on problems provided by industrial partners, and students will come up with ideas to solve them and proposals for a project to develop these ideas further. This module covers the basic principles of artificial intelligence systems, techniques and the types of problems that can be solved by such techniques. This module also evaluates the risks and benefits of AI adoptions in different domains. This module will provide you with an understanding of the role of digital technologies in transforming industries and sectors. It will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to core concepts of science for digital technology, and an understanding of the fundamental aspects of science essential for studying and working with digital technologies. We have four software and two hardware laboratories with professional grade facilities that you’ll use throughout your studies, depending on the modules you choose. This can be through working in the labs, which are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or through reading recommended materials or working through problems. Consequently, you’ll need to be self-motivated, self-disciplined and willing to learn outside regular classes. If students wish to purchase recommended texts, rather than borrow them from the University Library, prices per text can range from £30 to £100.
